1. Many people love wool. A smooth type of wool that does not allow wool to adhere is Gabardine which is often used in pants. I used to wear Gabardine but I didn’t like the air space between the pant and thermal underwear.
2. Nylon is not Dacron and visa-versa. Both are different types of synthetic fibers. Dacron (polyethylene terephthalate, aka PET) is a polyester and not a blend. Dacron is where our plastic liquid containers come from and where Polarguard is generated from. Nylon is actually a type of plastic — a thermo plastic first produced by a research group at DuPont in 1935. We commonly use these words as meaning the same fabric but technically dacron is a polyester and nylon is a plastic.
3. Many people disagree when comparing wool versus synthetic fibers. I do not like to be cold and I have used wool extensively. For me, synthetic fibers are a miracle of warmth. In my opinion, I find wool shirts or wool underwear always get damp with time, while my polypro or Polarguard always dried out just by slowing down my skiing speed. |
